I have been a photographer for many years. I fell in love with the camera while in the military, and purchased a camera at the local PX. I was fascinated with the fact that I could take the picture, and (with the help of the darkroom on base) develop my own pictures. It was magical. It still is. I do not just "like" photo-graphy, I have an extreme passion for the art. I have spent most of my adult life with a camera in my hand. Photography is not only my way of making a living it is also my passion.

I love to work in Photoshop, and other high end photo-manipulation programs for most of my images. I have done most all types of photography, starting as most other photographers, doing portraits for friends, and for several years pursued portrait and wedding photography. From 1980 until 1987, I was working for the VA Medical Center in Atlanta, as a biomedical photographer. I have a strong medical background, due to being a Navy Corpsman (medic), and found medical photography fascinating. But in 1987, I decided that this was not a career that I wanted to pursue for the rest of my life. So I resigned and started Dougherty Photographics, INC.

A great deal of my free time is devoted to fine art black and white photography. These images range from everything from nudes to scenics to abstracts. Until recently, I use to work a lot with large format (4x5) cameras for their incredible detail. I have always been a darkroom junkie, and extensively studied and practiced the zone system of photography made famous by Ansel Adams. With the advent of our new high end digital cameras I am really enjoying my personal work more. We utilize Canon digital cameras. We have a arsenal of some of the finest cameras and lenses available to give you the highest quality images available.

As far as the rest of my life, I enjoy motorcycling, camping and fishing. I have a Honda VTX which me and Ellen love riding in our free time. I also love to fish, so if I'm off, you may well see me on Lake Lanier or other local lakes trying to become the next BASSMASTER!

ABOUT DOUGHERTY PHOTOGRAPHICS

I currently own and operate Dougherty Photographics, along with my wife Ellen, who is the studio manager and problem solver, and my daughter Megan, who does digital imaging, graphic design, and web publishing. We specialize in the photography of people, for creative purposes. Our clientele range from beginner models and actors, to celebrities to average people who want a creative photo of themselves. Our services include glamour, portfolios, CD covers, pinup photography, personal portraits and many other "people related" services. Our studio is located in Stone Mountain, Georgia. The atmosphere is very relaxed. Photo shoots are laid back and casual, no intimidating attitude or surrounding, it's just "comfortable". While you're here, you may get a visit from Lily, our dachshund - chihuaha mix, or one of our other pets, or just sit out by the fish pond and watch the koi frolic. We strive to make the session as relaxing as possible so you will look good in your photos.
